Northwest Airways Inc began operations in Detroit, Michigan. Like most airlines, its first commercial activity started as a mail carrier between Minneapolis and Chicago. Northwest quickly expanded and began flying mail across the northern states to Seattle. In 1933, the name was changed to Northwest Airline.
