United Airlines, like most airlines today, is a result of several acquisitions and mergers. United began as Varney Air Service in Boise, Idaho. But the airline really began to establish itself when William Boeing began flying mail in 1927 and acquiring airlines to form United Aircraft and Transport Corporation.
