Hughes Airwest was an airline based out of San Francisco and focused primarily on west coast routes. It started out as a combination of a handful of smaller operations - Pacific Air Lines, Bonanza Air Lines, and West Coast Airlines - merged to form Air West. When Howard Hughes purchased the Air West in 1970, the name was officially made Hughes Air West. And, in 1971, it changed to Hughes Airwest.
